When looking at web sites and web services the first thing you need to understand is this;
The internet is not a magic bag of money, I'm sure someone has put up a web site only to be buried in orders, but the
fact is, that's rare.
So if the web isn't a bag of money, then what is it?
For most companies its a very solid marketing tool, allowing you to say much more than would other wise be possible
or cost effecient using other media, such as print.
We often find ourselves working in construction, manufacturing, legal and Banking industries. With
the exception of banking, most of these environments, don't lend themselves to web based purchasing.
So you're job is to look at what you do, and your business and decide, how will the internet and website,
serve you?
It may be no more than a real nice way to show you and what you are and your history.
You may be one of those companies that can use the web for online sales, which means you now need to
think about how much money you'll be spending on marketing, who you'll be marketing to, whether your
marketing will be web dominante or you'll use other media to point to your web site?
These are all subjects you'll need to address in order to plan your web project properly.
So now we've got that out of our way, lets get down to business. No doubt you've seen thousands of web pages, hundreds of web sites,
some very well done, others not so
well done. But what most people or companies don't consider is, what exactly are we planning and or looking
for? Besides the bag of money.
If you're looking to put acouple of hundred dollars into a site and wait for the thousands of orders to
roll in, you may find it's a longer wait than you were planning on.
Look at your service or product, then your budget and deside how you'd like to approach
the problem and solution. Remember, 99.5 percent of websites we see do nothing, just sit and grow old.
What else should you consider, or think about? Colors and layout, remember, you're looking for
what appeals to possbile or current clients, don't pick red, black and gold, because you like them.
It takes time and research to put together what works for your business, clients, sense of beauty, functionality
and budget. So take your time and do your home work. Don't look at godaddy.com unless you can sell your
product and services using hot woman, day glow colors and a very busy page. Which for most users
is simply over whelming.
The web can be a very sophistocated and solid environment to work in, it can do the bragging about work you've
done that would other wise be hard to do, it can say the things you'd love to have referrals say.
Here at Kel-tek, we've see both the good and the bad. We're not going to tell you give us $ 1,000. dollars and you'll have more orders than you
can deal with. We know that it will take some work and time to put together correct combination of
